A Note from the Author
Jane Austen gave us one of literature's most enduring families — but she left so much unsaid. I wrote this novel out of a lifelong curiosity about the years before Pride and Prejudice begins: the courtship of Mr. and Mrs. Bennet, the early life at Longbourn, the social world that formed Elizabeth's sharp mind and warm heart. This is my attempt to honour Austen's world while imagining what she never wrote.
